• Ashford borough residents and businesses are being urged to have their say on the future of Ashford town centre as part of a major public consultation launched by the Council.The consultation provides the perfect opportunity to find out what’s happening now and throughout the rest of the year, as well as what’s going to happen over the next three years.

    It also shows the possibilities for the future and Ashfordians have a key role to play in reshaping the town.

    High streets up and down the country are facing challenging times with the increase in online shopping and the need to offer something beyond just a shopping experience. The council is keenly aware that residents want more from their town centre and the good news is there are many changes taking place or in the pipeline.

    The ambition is to build on Ashford’s heritage as a market town, one that makes the most of its unique location, international connections and strong community spirit – a modern market town.

    Are you keen to see more leisure provision? Do you have a view on how retail facilities can be improved? Got an idea on how to attract more tourists? We want to hear from you! We may not be able to implement everything that is suggested but we promise that every suggestion will be considered carefully.

    Ashford Borough Council already has a raft of ideas for potential town centre developments including the provision of an outdoor flexible performance space, eye-catching public art that becomes a national attraction and the creation of a town centre app.

    The town centre consultation is due to run until early October.
